	DOWNEAST CHALLENGE 2004

Dear Fellow Sailor,

As you may already know, this is an overnight race from Gloucester, MA, to Rockland, ME, open to double-handed and fully crewed boats. The start will be in Gloucester Harbor at 1000 hours on Saturday, July 31, 2004. We expect that most boats will finish on Sunday. We will have a post-race gathering and an informal raft-up on Sunday evening. After everyone has had a chance to catch up on sleep, there will be a blueberry pancake breakfast and award ceremony Monday morning in Rockland.

Here are a few more key points:

• This is a fund raising event for the Maine Scholarship Regatta, sponsored by the Rockland Rotary Club, which provides scholarships for young people who wish to pursue a career in the marine trades. We encourage participants to enlist sponsors to contribute to this effort.
• PHRF certificates are required for entry. Information about obtaining them is on the entry form.
• Entry forms are included in the Information Package available by clicking the "Downeast Package" link at the bottom of this page. Please complete and mail in your entry form promptly so we can advise you about anchorage/moorings/dockage and other marine facilities in both locales.

We are grateful for the help of our sponsors over the past few months. They include the Rockland, Annisquam, and Eastern Point Yacht Clubs. With their help, we are sure that this will be a terrific event. We look forward to seeing you in Gloucester the end of July.
